PETALING JAYA: About 15,000 people turned up at Sunway Lagoon for the highly-anticipated MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia concert which featured American superstar Katy Perry.
The pop icon had her fans eating out of her hands with her rendition of new songs from her latest album Teenage Dream, which included Peacock.
South Korean all-girl group Wonder Girls also had the crowd – mainly teenagers – in the partying mood with their number hit Nobody.
More surprises awaited the crowd as the Wonder Girls went on to add a rock twist to Nobody, performing the catchy single using electric guitars as their dance props.
The quintet disappeared into the backstage for a moment before re-emerging to perform the full version of the song as the audience mimic their dance steps enthusiatically.
Whimsical props: Perry entertaining the audience at MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia 2010 concert in Sunway Lagoon yesterday.
The audience got so excited that a technical glitch which delayed Tokio Hotel’s set failed to ruin their mood.
When the German glam rock outfit took the stage, the crowd, who had already been there for more than two hours, showed no sign of fatigue as they bopped their heads to every note.
Earlier, local group Bunkface entertained the crowd with their uptempo songs.
Fans gathered at the venue at 4pm, two hours before the event was scheduled to begin.
The rain did not dampen the spirit of the concert goers who stuck it out with ponchos.
Veejays Utt from Thailand, Chris (Japan), Juju (China) and Sean (South Korea) were the emcees for the event, which was the second MTV world stage event to be held in Malaysia.
The event will be broadcast in 162 countries later in the year.
