Wednesday, August 5th, 2009 13:20:00

THERE was no foul play in the untimely death of 22-year-old Universiti Tenaga Nasional (Uniten) electronics engineering student Gary Leon Robert, whose body was found inside a tunnel at Shah Alam stadium on Monday afternoon.

Police confirmed the post-mortem result found that Gary had died due to dehydration.
Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noor Azam Jamaluddin said the excessive loss of water from his body probably made him dizzy before he collapsed. He added that the case has been classified as sudden death, following the post-mortem results.

Meanwhile, Shah Alam mayor Mazlan Mat Noor expressed the council's sympathy over the incident. He added that Gary had received the best treatment possible from the Civil Defence Department staff when he first collapsed.

It is believed that some witnesses claimed Gary was seen walking away after the medical team had treated him. Mazlan said the council would be ready to face any legal action by the victim’s family if they insisted on proceeding with legal action.

“If the family wants an explanation from us, we are ready to talk to them regarding the incident.”

Gary was a second of three siblings and the only boy in the family. He was associated with the Selangor Football Club and the Sunday’s marathon marked his first time running a 22km race.
He was reported missing after collapsing at the finish line and later that day, a massive search and rescue operation was conducted by Shah Alam police after his family lodged a report.

His body was found by police dogs near a construction waste dumpsite at the stadium's tunnel at 1.05pm the next day.
